Regular maintenance for your vehicle is so important and Kassel Motorsports takes car maintenance very seriously. For the amount of money that we spend on purchasing a vehicle, staying on top of upkeep is crucial to ensure maximum longevity and value. If you are not auto-savvy or find yourself far from an auto shop, it can quite often feel frustrating to experience any sort of car trouble. Situations of this nature can be avoided by having your car looked at on a regular basis. What should you have looked at on a regular basis? The five most important things are the engine, the oil, the air filter, brakes and brake pads, and the tires.

You want to have your engine checked regularly because it is the heart of your vehicle. With a malfunctioning engine, your auto is nothing more than an oversized paper-weight. Remember to also have your transmission looked at during car maintenance since it works hand-in-hand with the engine. Having these checked on a normal basis allows you to feel safe knowing that your engine and transmission are functioning as they should be without any issue or cause for concern.

If your engine is the heart of your car, then its oil is the blood that flows through it. As time passes, small pieces of metal, exhaust gasses, and the heat from the daily use contaminate the oil and reduce its effectiveness by wearing it thin. Changing the oil on a regular basis will keep the parts running smoothly and properly. The old advice of changing your oil every 3,000 miles or 3 months is no longer valid as most cars nowadays can go up to 5,000 miles or more between car maintenance.

Breathing air through our lungs helps circulate blood through our bodies. Smoking cigarettes can cause damage to the lungs and prevent you from getting a full breath of fresh air, possibly causing problems throughout the rest of your body. It’s the same concept regarding your car maintenance and air filter. If the air filter becomes clogged with dirt and dust, it can lower your gas mileage, horsepower, and in severe cases it can even cause your car to stall. The level of frequency in which you should change your air filter varies on how much you drive each year and what the atmosphere is like in the areas you drive most.

Why it is important to keep your brakes and brake pads up to date is fairly obvious.  It is a safety concern for not only yourself and your loved ones, but for all the other people with whom you share the road. If your brake fluid is low, you may have soft brake pedals. If your brake pads are dirty, you may hear your brakes squeak. Once this happens, it’s time to change your pads out.

While these are the primary areas of car maintenance, there are still plenty of other parts to be maintained. Be sure to have your car looked at the minute you suspect anything may be wrong. Remember, maintaining your car is just as important as doing exercise for your body to keep in shape or reading to keep your mind sharp!
